Grounds for Appeal

Between 1916-18, over 5,000 men in the North Riding appealed their conscription to the army. The majority of these men appeal on the grounds they felt they were already working toward the war effort, only a very mall minority were conscientious objectors.

See the interactive map of the men appealing to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal.
